Sushma Swaraj's
undignified behaviour
(May 20, 2004)
The way Sushma Swaraj, Govindacharya and Uma Bharti are behaving
simply shows their inability to accept the verdict of the people
gracefully. But then again, the BJP has not really been known for
being graceful.
If Swaraj is so against Smt. Sonia Gandhi being Prime Minister because
she is a "foreigner", why did she agree to contest against
a "foreigner" when she lost to Smt. Gandhi in Bellary?
Why is it that the BJP did not object to a "foreigner"
from being the Leader of the Opposition? Now when she has received
the mandate of the people, they are acting so cheaply.
Swaraj keeps harping that the Congress-led coalition has not received
the mandate of the people. Let her be reminded that the Congress
is still the single largest party in its own right, even without
its allies. If Congress did not receive the full mandate, it still
received more mandate than the BJP and Vajpayee.
Swaraj thinks she will get political mileage out of what she is
doing. This is in itself a clear indication that she is not in touch
with reality. She is acting in a manner which is unconstitutional
and anti-democratic. The BJP has not stopped treating us Indians
like we are fools. We are not fools, Sushmaji, we voted for change
and you should be dignified enough to accept that change. If you
have issues, take them up in the next election. This time the people
have voted for change in leadership at the centre.
