Hitler being glorified
in Gujarat's textbooks
(October 1, 2004)
It refers to the story in The Times of India (New Delhi, Sept.
30) about Adolf Hitler being glorified in the text books of class
X students in Gujarat. This is another example of how Narendra Modi
seems hell bent on promoting and glorifying sectarian violence.
The fact that Class VIII students are taught 'negative aspect' of
Gandhiji's non-cooperation is another clear indication that this
state government in Gujarat stands for violence instead of peaceful
co-existence.
It is ironical that both Mahatma Gandhi and Narendra Modi were born
in the same state of Gujarat. While the one promoted peace, brotherhood
and tolerance; the other is promoting and glorifying historical
tyrants, condoning communal violence and discord and criticising
someone who brought about change without bloodshed.
It is strange that even though a state that has witnessed natural
disasters like the January 26, 2001 killer earthquake that killed
across religious and sectarian lines, the government of that state
still has not learnt to try to promote equality and brotherhood
and has to stoop down to such low levels as glorifying the likes
of Adolf Hitler. It is a shame.
